Barcelona are looking to answer their issues at right-back once and for all by signing a worthy enough player to replicate Dani Alves’ success and style.

Barcelona boss Quique Setien and his predecessors have had a constant problem- having a good and reliable right fullback. Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto have been switching amongst themselves since the departure of Dani Alves in 2016, but nobody has been really convincing and been able to cement his spot to succeed the Brazilian.

More from Everything Barca

Germany international Joshua Kimmich as well as Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira have been touted as potential signings for the Catalans, but both options are proving to be expensive. Moreover, Barca cannot afford to exceed their budgets this summer because they are even pursuing transfers for Neymar and Lautaro Martinez which will be very exorbitant.

Don Balon has reported that Lionel Messi has recommended his suggestion in Athletic Bilbao defender Ander Capa to the club. The 28 year old has been one of La Liga’s best fullbacks this season and has been likened to players like Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal and Jordi Alba for his brilliant defending whilst not disappointing going forward too.

Ander Capa has already made his Spain debut under the supervision of ex-Barca manager Luis Enrique and looked good even with the national side. At 28, the Athletic Bilbao star is at the peak of his powers and at 30 million euros, the deal sounds like a very reasonably priced transfer for the Blaugrana to pursue during the upcoming summer.

Sergi Roberto’s injury will see Nelson Semedo handed a start as the right back against Real Sociedad and the Portugal international, who is facing a race against time will need to do a good job against the Basque side if he wants to stay at the Camp Nou. As it is, the Catalans are planning his involvement in Lautaro Martinez’s deal but the final decision rests with the player.
