One of the best European players vetoed by Barcelona could avenge the Catalans by signing up with La Liga rivals Real Madrid in the upcoming window.
Barcelona got permission from La Liga to make an emergency signing a few days after the winter’s transfer window after long-term injuries ruled out Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele until the end of this season. Leganes man Martin Braithwaite was the ideal man as per the Catalans and they made a swift move to land the Danish forward.

Martin Braithwaite has done a decent job in his first few appearances for Barcelona. He set up an assist for Lionel Messi within minutes of coming on against Eibar a fortnight ago and also got close to scoring for his new side against Real Madrid last weekend. Having said that, the 28 year old has made a good impact within a short spell but it was absurd of Barca to not go for a quality name in January in spite of their lack of goals and poor form.
Diario GOL has reported that former RB Salzburg ace Erling Haaland was identified as a target by the Barca sporting director Eric Abidal, but it turned out that several of the club’s heavyweights vetoed his arrival as they believed he wasn’t ready to play at the highest level just yet. Borussia Dortmund ended up signing him for just 60 million euros and to a major impact.
Erling Haaland reportedly has a condition in his contract which would see his release clause lower to 75 million euros in the upcoming summer and that is a fairly affordable price for any club in the current market. Moreover, it’s not a very foreseeable option to see the lethal forward stay at the Signal Iduna Park for a very long time.
Real Madrid have apparently shortlisted the player on their radar and may go for him this summer by pushing a move for Kylian Mbappe until next summer. Haaland’s father insisted that La Liga is the right place for his son and given that Barca rejected him, there might be a motivation for the Norwegian to join their fiercest rivals and make a point to the Catalans.
Do you see Erling Haaland’s potential signing by Real Madrid negatively impact Barcelona?
