Quique Setien may be forced into looking at another job this summer as Lionel Messi has demanded his Barcelona exit following the season.
Quique Setien replaced Ernesto Valverde at the Camp Nou in January. The former Real Betis manager has had his fair share of criticism, but the fans and players have backed him more than their previous coach. Barcelona are now on top of La Liga but there still seems to be somewhat of a crisis at the club.

Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen have bailed Barca out numerous times in spite of a change in dynamics earlier on this season but Quique Setien can only be judged by the fanbase only once he has a full summer to revolutionize the side. With that said, Messi has cast doubts over the manager’s future, as reported by Don Balon.
Barcelona’s captain seems to be unhappy and dejected at the club’s entire situation right now. Not many players are in favour of leaving their current teams for Barca and the board of directors seem to have no knowledge about what the coach needs. Nevertheless, Messi feels that Setien does not have the right tactics and should go in the summer.
Following Ernesto Valverde’s sacking, it was thought that Quique Setien would be the right man at the Camp Nou but looking at the options that are available this summer there are lingering doubts over the current manager’s quality. Lionel Messi has recommended that the Blaugrana go for highly successful River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo.
Marcelo Gallardo was one of the choices at the Camp Nou prior to Quique Setien’s arrival but the Argentine preferred staying in South America. Ronald Koeman would also be available following the Euro 2020 with Netherlands. However, it needs to be noted that it’s Barca’s underperforming players who are the core issue and not the manager.
Who do you think is most responsible for Barca’s situation- the board, the manager or the players?
