Barcelona goalie Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is keen on renewing his contract with the club, but has made a fundamental demand prior to committing.

Barcelona returned to the summit of La Liga after their win over Real Sociedad last Saturday. The Catalans did require a helping hand from Real Betis, who defeated Real Madrid a day later but as things stand, their fate in the Spanish top flight is in their own hands and only a lapse for Barca could hand the Merengues their 34th La Liga Championship.

More from Everything Barca

While the defending league champions have not been at their best this season, moments of individual brilliance from Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Lionel Messi have proven to be the difference on more than a few occasions. Some results were not enough to save Ernesto Valverde’s job, however, Quique Setien has managed to bring some consistency at the Camp Nou.

Some of the most important Barcelona players have failed in stepping up at crucial times but with their contracts expiring at the end of next season, the club is looking to enter negotiations. Messi, Rakitic, Suarez and Vidal are the first team players whose association with Barca will end in June 2021 as per their current contractual terms.

El Desmarque has claimed that despite being on track to lose several key players within a year, the Blaugrana are talking to Germany international Marc-Andre Ter Stegen over a possible renewal of his deal. The former Borussia Monchengladbach man has been the club’s best player alongside Lionel Messi and deserves to be rewarded for his effort.

Interestingly, Ter Stegen earns an annual wage that is below the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Keylor Navas and Ederson amongst others and his primary demand is that the Catalans make him the world’s highest paid goalkeeper. Barcelona are currently paying their shot-stopper just six million euros a year, so it would take some stretching.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s idea is to continue at the Camp Nou, which is the pinnacle of football but he wants to be compensated for it financially as well. Chelsea are thought to be keeping an eye on the Barca man and with Kepa’s form being a worry for the Premier League giants, they could be open on splashing money behind another goalkeeper.
