Arsenal and Manchester United are heavily linked with the centre back to solve their defensive problems and in turn, qualify for the Champions Leauge in the upcoming season. The Gunners have struggled to perform after the shocking transfer of Laurent Koscielny in 2019 and are in a desperate need to fill the void created. Mikel Arteta is rebuilding Arsenal by bringing in defensive reinforcements and has made Samuel Umtiti one of his primary targets over the summer.
The Red Devils seem like a more plausible transfer for the French international as they have a higher possibility to qualify for the Champions League as compared to the Gunners. After the signing of Bruno Fernades, the club has performed extremely well offensively and have been focusing on defensive reinforcements.
Jonathan Tah seems like an ideal candidate to sign for Barcelona in place of Samuel Umtiti. According to the Bundesliga, Tah has acted as the backbone for Bayer Leverkusen over the last two seasons and was an integral part of their wonder season 2018-2019. Consistency from a centre back is what has been missing from Barca all season long and the German international fills that void as he has started in 21 games out of 25 in the Bundesliga for his club. Another valuable feature that the Barca can benefit from is Tah’s passing ability from the backline as he has 92% pass accuracy this season which is becoming an integral part of modern-day football.
The 24-year-old centre back can also act as a long term replacement for Pique who is heading towards to twilight years of his career.
