Barcelona put Antoine Griezmann up for sale following disappointing debut season.

Barcelona are not renowned for their success in the transfer market. They tend to buy high and sell low. Since Neymar left, the club has spent hundreds of millions of euros to find his replacement.

The likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembélé and Antoine Griezmann have been signed to try to fill his boots. All three have had limited success with Coutinho lasting only a season and a half and Dembélé spending most of his time injured.

Griezmann has fared better but still not as well as what was expected. Given his somewhat successful spell, it may explain why he now finds himself on the transfer market.

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona have put the former Atletico Madrid man up for sale.

The Catalans would be willing to let him go for €100 million. Whether any club would offer anything close to that amount is a different story.

If they are unable to sell him, Barcelona would also consider using him in a swap deal. Potentially in a deal for the aforementioned Neymar.

The club paid €120 million to Atletico Madrid for him but they feel he has not lived up to it. He snubbed them two seasons ago which led to some resentment in the locker room when he finally did arrive.

He’s scored some important goals but in some games he’s been invisible. Some of that can be chalked up to being stuck on the left side of the attack where he can be isolated. With Atletico he played more centrally as part of a front two.

Another reason is he hasn’t established a connection with Lionel Messi. The Argentine was one of the players rumored to be unhappy with his signing and at times it comes across on the pitch.

There still appears to be a disconnect between the two with the Frenchman making runs during games but Messi deciding to go somewhere else.

Griezmann does offer something that none of the other forwards do and that is the ability to track back. Defensively he helps out a great deal and is willing to do the dirty work that the others are not and sacrificing himself in a way that the others are not.

Quique Setién is a fan of the player so the possibility that he stays isn’t ruled out. Should he be sold and the Catalans not get anywhere near what they paid for him, it’ll be yet another example of their incompetence in the transfer market.
