The Catalan club signed former Real Betis manager Quique Setien as their head coach for the remainder of the season, who also believes in the same philosophy that Barcelona would thrive on which is the possession of the ball is everything.
However, the Cantabrian manager’s spell at the club has signaled mixed feelings amongst the players about the quality of the manager, however, the Barcelona board is clear that the former Betico man will lead the club next season.
El Desmarque claims that the board decided to support the manager and have confidence in his tactics that are still yet to work due to the lack of squad depth which should not be an issue next season. The Catalans are currently topping the La Liga Santander table and still have a clear chance for qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League if the competition does resume once again.
Although all training sessions have been called off by the club board, Setien has kept in touch with the sports management team to develop a squad plan for the 2020-21 season.
The manager also checks on his players to ensure that they are all carrying out their physical activities to maintain their highly developed matchday conditioning. Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele, Sergi Roberto, and Arthur Melo are in close touch with their manager as they discuss their daily rehab progression after sustaining long term injuries.
Quique Setien is not the only one actively participating in communicating with the players of the club, Josep Maria Bartomeu has been in close touch with UEFA and the Spanish Football Federation regarding the upliftment of the suspension of all competitions. The President wants the manager to prepare the squad for the La Liga and the Champions League irrespective of when either of the competitions can resume.
Do you think that Quique Setien is the right man to lead Barcelona?
