Most of the players at the club were upset when Valverde was sacked and Lionel Messi was one of the few players to candidly express his emotions by stating that the losses that paid heavily on the manager’s tenure at the club were the player’s faults and not his tactics.
Xavi Hernandez was not a fan favourite to take over the club, the players also wanted their legend to return as most of the heavyweights at the club share personal relationship off the field with Xavi Hernandez. However, Josep Maria Bartomeu and his team decided to sign former Real Betis manager Quique Setien, the Betico man shares the same football mindset that is preached at the Catalan club that possession is the most important aspect of the game.
However, the fairy tale of Quique Setien being the next Pep Guardiola has not turned as expected, several of the players at the club also doubt whether the Cantabrian is the correct man to rebuild the sinking club once again.
Xavi Hernandez has given his first interview regarding his possible appointment as the Blaugrana head coach next season, the former club captain stated that he would sign the contract only if his terms and conditions would be met by the board.
Al Sadd’s manager wants Carles Puyol within his coaching team along with Jordi Cruyff as his technical secretariat. He also demands that the club needs a winger after they sold Neymar Junior to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of 222 million euros.
Don Balon claims that Xavi wants Serge Gnabry or Jadon Sancho, as the club are unbeatable through the centre of the pitch but lack finesse on the wing when attacking.
For the moment Xavi Hernandez will continue his managerial career in Qatar, as his family has settled down very comfortably in the country.
If Barcelona does need him, Xavi Hernandez has kept himself available.
