Barcelona should opt to sign a Defender from Manchester City to solidify their backline.

Joao Cancelo joined Manchester City in the 2019-2020 season but has failed to get adequate amount of games under Pep Guardiola. Having started only 11 Premier League games, the Portuguese international is frustrated and is looking for a change in the next transfer window. Barcelona could be a potential transfer destination for the defender.

The 25-year-old is remarkably fast and has an exceptional work rate. In 2018-2019 he played an instrumental role in Juventus and helped the team win the Serie A title. One of the greater features in Joao Cancelo’s game is that he is notably versatile and is comfortable playing offensively in RM as well as defensively on RB and LB as per the convenience of his side.

The Spanish giants’ defence is in shambles. The club has conceded 31 goals in 27 matches this season. To add to the misery, Samuel Umtti wants to leave the club to play in the Premier League and Pique is reaching the dusk of his career. This has lead to the club wanting to refortify the backline in the Camp Nou over the next transfer window.

Barcelona should opt to sign Cancelo in the next transfer window. The defender is extremely fast and has great passing as well as dribbling capabilities. These capabilities are suited to Barca’s style of play. In addition, signing the Portuguese international will allow Barca’s midfield to be more expressive while attacking as Cancelo will be able to provide key passes to midfield regularly as well as provide more support for the wingers with his overlapping runs and ability to cross the ball with ease.

Defensively Barcelona will be able to add an experienced player in their backline who is comfortable providing defensive cover on both the flanks.
