Barcelona finally begin relentless pursuit of Lionel Messi’s long-term replacement

The president of Barcelona has identified a replacement from the Bundesliga.

Barcelona is currently in a state of economic crisis due to the suspension of all major leagues because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The club has an important summer transfer window coming up as they have big ambitions to sign Neymar or Lautaro Martinez.

A few days ago there was a bust-up between the squad and the board of the club over the suspension of payments, the entire issue has now further complicated the relationship that the players share with the board.

Several players at the club want their president to step down from his position as soon as possible. The players have accused Josep Maria Bartomeu and his management team of poor financial management and panic signings along with exuberant wages. The current financial standing of the club has made it complicated to sign Neymar or Lautaro Martinez next summer. However, the president has a backup option for Neymar from the Bundesliga.

Since Paris Saint-Germain will not let Neymar go for anything less than 220 million euros, Barcelona cannot afford to pay a transfer fee of that figure. Josep Maria Bartomeu has a plan B, the president considers signing Jadon Sancho from the Bundesliga if the Neymar Junior operation fails and the England international will be a great replacement for Luis Suarez.

Jadon Sancho is considered to be one of the best talents in world football and Borussia Dortmund is well aware that it would be a difficult task to keep their English gem at the Signal Iduna Park next season. According to Don Balon, the Catalan club are ready to offer 100 million euros for the English winger.

Besides his brilliant reputation, Sancho was the only player besides Leo Messi and Eden Hazard to have double figures in goals as well as assists over the last two seasons in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Catalan club plan to fund their operation of signing Jadon Sancho by selling Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. Chelsea and Manchester United have shown interest in signing the former Liverpool midfielder for a figure of 60 to 80 million euros and Liverpool has considered signing Ousmane Dembele as well.

Although, the English winger is on contract with the German team till 2022, the winger has shown his desire to leave the club as soon as possible. Jadon Sancho would be a fantastic addition to the Catalan squad as they lack natural wingers after the departure of Neymar Junior and Antoine Griezmann is being used in an impeded position.

If Barcelona does manage to sign the English sensation then it would be the signing of the summer.
