Philippe Coutinho‘s future looks more and more likely to be away from Barcelona.

Considering the different attacking players Barcelona have been linked with, they face the possibility of having too many players up front if even one new signing is made.

As of now, they have Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite and Ousmane Dembélé. The first two are guaranteed starters leaving four players battling for the final spot.

However, one looming problem on the horizon is the potential return of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has been on loan this past season with Bayern Munich. After an inconsistent season, Bayern are unlikely to keep him once the season is over.

Despite Quique Setién being open to Coutinho, the club’s standpoint is to move him on even if it means not recuperating the amount spent on him.

Coutinho has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Chelsea being the front-runner.

According to Sport, Barcelona and Chelsea are discussing a possible loan deal for the player.

Ideally, the Catalans would like the deal to be a season-long loan with an obligatory option to buy. Chelsea, on the other hand, want it to be optional.

To entice Chelsea, the club are willing to put a price tag of only €65 million. Chelsea would be willing to actually have a higher amount if it meant they wouldn’t be obligated to buy once the loan is over.

Any way you spin it, Barcelona are resigned to the fact that they may not even recuperate half of the amount they paid to Liverpool. What they think they have going for them is that Chelsea had been interested in the past but had to back off because of the transfer ban.

Other Premier League sides have also shown interest but, at the moment, the negotiations with Chelsea seem to have more legs. For Coutinho’s sake, he needs to find a club where he can rediscover his form. All signs point that it won’t be at Barcelona.
