Atletico Madrid begets plans to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona over the summer transfer window.

More from Everything Barca

According to the Don Balon, Diego Simeone yearns to take vengeance from Barcelona over the transfer of Antonio Griezmann. The French marksman was nurtured at the Metropolitano Stadium from 2014 up till 2019. In this time, Antonio Griezmann scored 94 goals in 180 La Liga appearances and even helped them win the 2017-2018 Europa League title by scoring a brace in the final.

The striker’s transfer to Barca created a void for Simeone which has put Atletico Madrid’s chance to qualify for the Champions League in jeopardy.

Ivan Raktic has been listed as the primary transfer target for Atletico Madrid this summer. The Croatia international joined Barcelona in 2014 and has been the heart and soul in their midfield. He helped the Spanish giants win four La Liga titles and the 2014-2015 Champions League. Furthermore Rakitic, awarded the Croatian Player of the Year award in 2015 and helped his country reach the World Cup Final in 2018.

The Croatian machine is exceptionally adaptable and can operate as a defensive midfielder who can provide his team with defensive stability as well as an attacking midfielder who can generate attacks from the middle of the pitch. The most prominent characteristic about his game is his capability to interlink with players and present them with great goal-scoring opportunities regularly.

Ivan Rakitic feels undervalued at Barca and believes his teammates and the staff haven’t backed him enough in challenging times. At the age of 31, Rakitic has been benched despite persevering extraordinary form which has negatively affected his frame of mind. The midfield maestro is at the end of his career and doesn’t want to play his last few years of football in the Camp Nou if that means sitting on the bench more often than not.

Atletico has assured Ivan Rakitic that he will play a fundamental role in their forthcoming squad.
