Lionel Messi demands the Barcelona board to pay 10 million euros to trigger the buy-back option, as the captain has immense faith in the player’s abilities.

The squad at Barcelona is that of an aging one filled with players who struggling with fitness and a few who are way past their prime. Jordi Alba is one of the players who has not aged well and this season, the Spanish fullback struggled with injuries.

More from Everything Barca

Jordi Alba’s backup Junior Firp has been no good as well. The former Betico man was signed under Ernesto Valverde and was considered to be the heir to take over Jordi Alba in a season or two. However, his poor lifestyle and irresponsible behavior have led to a massive drop in his form. Junior Firpo on several occasions has also been made the scapegoat of the club along with Antoine Griezmann.

The entire left flank at Barcelona is in shambles, Antoine Griezmann seems clueless when deployed on the flanks and both the left-backs have barely contributed while attacking or defending. Quique Setien himself has fallen out with his former pupil from Real Betis who he once considered to be the future of the Catalan club.

The club desperately needs to reinforce their left flank to seriously compete for the major trophies next season. In Barcelona, Lionel Messi believes that the return of Marc  Cucurella would solidify the weak link in the defence, according to Don Balon.

Marc Cucurella is not the mainstream footballer that has incredible speed or top-level conditioning either, what the La Masia graduate posses are what most players in today’s market lack, intelligence along with split-second decision making ability.

What truly makes the Getafe man stand out is the capability of recovering the ball along with a high success rate of interceptions. The La Masia graduate averages around 13% of his team’s interceptions in a game. Neither Jordi Alba nor Junior Firpo can compete with stats as good as those.

Barca has the option to buy back their player at 10 million euros and Lionel Messi has urged the board to do so.

Marc Cucurella has surely made a name for himself and it is the perfect time for him to cement a place in the starting eleven of Barcelona.
