Barcelona are letting themselves slip downwards by making another thoughtless decision on Neymar’s potential signing from Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona are going to reshuffle their pack during the summer. Lautaro Martinez and Neymar are the two players who are on the Catalans’ shopping list heading forward, but the financial state of late means that signing both the forwards will be beyond them. That being said, Barca must make a shrewd decision over who they are to sign.

Regardless of how things must actually pan out, Barca’s board is often succumbing to the player and fan demands and that may get the better of Josep Maria Bartomeu and his allies once more. Diario GOL has claimed that Lionel Messi is the influencer of what is almost certainly a bad decision from the Catalans’ point of view.

Paris Saint-Germain have set a huge price tag of close to 150 million euros on Neymar and even though it is lesser than the 200 million they were initially demanding, Barca’s overall costs will be sky-high if they sign the Brazil international. Neymar currently earns an annual wage of 36 million euros in France, a figure that Barca will need to come close to besides paying their former superstar a signing bonus of 25 million euros.

While Neymar is among the most marketable athletes in the world, the costs that Barcelona will need to incur are tremendous and not ideal for a club that’s struggling financially. On the other hand, Lautaro Martinez will be much cheaper at 110 million euros. Inter Milan could also accept a swap deal and most importantly, the striker currently earns seven million euros at the San Siro annually, so Barca won’t need to make a big wage leap.

Lionel Messi however has other ideas in mind and is persuading Barcelona to think about the short-term. The Argentine forward believes that his side must pursue a transfer for Neymar this summer regardless of how they are doing financially. Having said that, it’s most likely that the board will meet a frustrated man’s demands just to make him happy.

Time and again the Catalans’ hierarchy has shown that it lacks footballing knowledge but if anything, then they must put their thoughts together and sign Lautaro Martinez first rather than risk losing him to someone else. Neymar’s desperation of returning to the Camp Nou will stop him from joining another club, but that won’t be the case with Martinez.

Do you think Barcelona must go for Neymar despite Lautaro Martinez being a much judicious option at this point in time?
