Luis Suarez picked up a long-term knee injury which has put him on the side-line until the end of May following a surgical procedure. Barcelona have been actively scanning for an offensive alternative to fill the void of their Uruguayan marksman.
The Spanish giants have kept Lautaro Martinez and Neymar as their primary transfer targets while approaching the summer transfer window.
Lautaro Martinez is a promising Argentinean striker who plays for Inter Milan in the Serie A. The 22-year-old finisher has demonstrated exceptional form by scoring 11 goals in 22 league games and is expected to mature into one of the most skillful strikers in the world. The transfer fee for Martinez is set to be around 100 million euros.
Neymar left Barcelona in 2017 and joined Paris Saint-Germain. Despite being in the form of his life scoring 13 league goals in 15 games the Brazilian superstar isn’t satisfied in Paris and wants to reunite with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the Camp Nou. Even though Barca’s board of directors and Neymar desire the transfer it might fail to go through as it might not be economically feasible. Nevertheless, Neymar wouldn’t be a like-for-like replacement to Suarez, but his arrival could see Antoine Griezmann play in his preferred central position.
A cheaper alternative for Barcelona is to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. According to ESPN, the Gabonese international is desperate to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Aubameyang wants to play the prime of his career in a club which qualifies for the Champions League regularly. To add to the Gunners’ misery, is the president of Gabonese FA has advised their captain to leave Arsenal and join a bigger club where he can compete and win trophies. The transfer fees for Aubameyang would be around 55 million euros.
Aubameyang’s contract expires in 2021. Do you think Barca should try to sign the striker in the upcoming transfer window?
