The Brazilian could very well be an option for Barcelona at right-back.

Barcelona’s transfer policy has been a bit perplexing over the years. The club have struck out more often than not and leaving them with significant issues when it comes to roster constructions.

Another strange aspect is their recent decision to sign players and immediately loan them out to other LaLiga sides. Matheus Fernandes is the latest example. He is currently at Real Valladolid on loan.

The other player is fellow Brazilian, Emerson de Souza. He is currently on loan at Real Betis but is already relishing the day when he can play for the Catalans.

According to Sport, the right-back spoke about how he’s staying fit amid the coronavirus pandemic and a potential return to the Camp Nou.

"“Yes, I am ready now to play for Barcelona. I was asked before if I was ready for the Brazilian national team, too, and I gave the same answer.”"

It’s clear that Emerson has a lot of confidence in himself and has played well this season for Real Betis.

Whether or not he plays for the Catalans next season remains to be seen and will depend on a few factors.

For one, his loan with Betis does not end until 2021. If Barcelona want him back before then, they’ll have to pay a fee to Betis. The other depends on the future of Nelson Semedo.

Semedo has been the talk of transfer speculation with a potential swap with Manchester City for Joao Cancelo being thrown about.

Emerson also mentioned that he grew up a Barça fan because of the Brazilians that played there and brought up Dani Alves as a player he looked up to. Right-back has been a position of need. Semedo has done a decent job but nothing spectacular.

Should Emerson find his way back to the Camp Nou and if he continues to develop, he could be the answer the club has been looking for.
