Barcelona and their arch-rivals Real Madrid are keen on investing in their backline in the upcoming transfer window.

More from Everything Barca

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been scouting the transfer market for long term replacements for their clubs central defenders Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos. The Spanish duo have served as anchors for their sides and being in their mid 30s have a few years of football left ahead of them.

According to the Diario Gol, Both the clubs have scouted and listed many defenders which they would like to sign in the summer transfer market. Some of the players that are included in the list are Milan Skriniar, Ruben Dias, Dayot Upamecano and Aymeric Laporte.

Zinedine Zidane has narrowed in on Dayot Upamecano and made him his primary target in the upcoming transfer window.

Dayot Upamecano is a 21-year-old French defender who plays for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. The Frenchman has played a crucial role for his side helping them qualify for the Champions League in the 2017-2018 season as well as the 2019-2020 season.

Upamecano is an extremely strong player who has shown signs of maturing into one of the best  central defenders in the world of football. The defender has opted to leave Leipzig and has decided to join a bigger club in the upcoming transfer window. Many prominent European clubs such as Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been in talks with his agent.

The 21-year-old has snubbed Real Madrid and has shown interest to sign for their arch-rivals Barcelona.

This is because Upamecano’s agent feels that the young Frenchman would attain a better role as well as get more minutes on the pitch in the Camp Nou. Barca are yet to put an offer on the table. The transfer fee for defender should be around 40 million euros.

Do you think Barcelona will sign the defender considering the fact that they have listed Lautaro Martinez and Neymar as their primary transfer targets?
