One of the players that Barcelona should opt to sign over the next few transfer windows is the 21-year-old French midfielder Christopher Nkunku, from the Bundesliga.
The young playmaker started his career playing for PSG. Here Nkunku performed exceedingly well and worked his way up from PSG’s youth academy to their senior squad. The Frenchman wasn’t satisfied with his time in Paris as he got to start in only 13 games and requested for a transfer away from the club. Nkunku was on the radar of many big clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United but he opted to sign for RB Leipzig from the Bundesliga. This was because his agent felt he would get more chances to play and develop his skills in Leipzig.
The Bundesliga has suited the Frenchman and has helped him mature into a versatile player who can provide his team with width by operating on both the wings as well as through the centre as an attacking midfielder. Nkunku has played an essential role for RB Leipzig this season providing his side with 14 assists and 4 goals in 23 league matches. The Frenchman has shows signs of maturing into a world-class player.
Barca’s midfield consists of players such as Sergio Busquets, Ivan Raktiic and Arturo Vidal who are in their 30’s and are approaching the peak of their careers. Signing young upcoming players over the next few transfer windows will be ideal for the Spanish giants. This is because the inexperienced players will get an opportunity to develop their skills under the mentorship of the experienced midfielders before they retire.
Christopher Nkunku’s estimated market value is around 35 million euros.
Do you think Barcelona should try and sign Nkunku in the upcoming transfer window?
