The extensive saga of Neymar making a return to the Nou Camp has come to an end after reports claim that Barcelona have shifted their focus for the summer.

According to Catalunya Radio’s Xavi Lemus and Lluís Canut, Barcelona have ruled out any summer bidding to re-sign the Paris Saint-Germain star. The economic impact on the club due to the coronavirus pandemic has moved the Neymar talks out of the question for the upcoming transfer window as they rightfully feel that their priority lies elsewhere.

More from Everything Barca

Blaugrana maintain their focus on bringing in attacking reinforcements, as 33-year-old Luis Suarez needs a backup striker next season, who could possibly take over the no. 9’s role permanently from the Uruguayan international in the future.

While all eyes continue to remain on Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, as he is seen as a more affordable option to the Brazilian Ace; there are other strikers who could prove to be worthwhile alternatives to consider.

While Olivier Giroud and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, have been previously linked with the Catalans, and remain available for a possible move this summer, fan-favorite Timo Werner could be the perfect option for Barca. The 24-year-old RB Leipzig striker is believed to have a release clause of €57 million, an unbelievably affordable amount considering the caliber of the player, while Lautaro Martinez’s release clause is set at €111 million.

If Barca have ruled out Neymar’s return due to his excessive release clause, perhaps they should do the same with the Argentine international as signing Timo Werner instead could help secure the other defensive transfer target for the summer.

Another agenda on the Catalan to-do list is the contract extension for Lionel Messi as his current contract expires in 2021. Marc-Andre ter Stegen takes the next spot on that list as the Spanish giants are eager to renew their star goalkeeper’s contract but have yet to reach an agreement. The report also claimed renewals for Luis Suarez and Nelson Semedo are ongoing.

What should be Barca’s priority for the next transfer window?
