Barcelona is already in deep waters and to add to their misery, Quique Setien has drifted apart from Lionel Messi after the duo has clashed over several quarrels.

Over the years it has become quite evident that falling out with the captain of Barcelona would be a death sentence. The Argentine forward has been extremely vocal this season on social media about the current state of the team being led by the incompetent board.

More from Everything Barca

A few weeks ago, Lionel Messi along with several other senior squad members expressed their opinion regarding the entire dispute over the wage cut amidst the world pandemic. It seems like Messi has grown tired over the situation at Barcelona and it every given opportunity, the argentine candidly expresses his disheartened emotions towards the club without any filter.

Quique Setien has been in charge of the Catalan squad for just three months since Ernesto Valverde was sacked after the defeat in the Copa del Rey. The former Betico man has had a rough patch so far in the last three months, several of the players doubt the qualities and decisions that the manager has made in the last few months and the recent quarrel with Lionel Messi is the nail in the coffin for the former Betico man’s tenure at the Camp Nou.

The entire issue between Quique Setien and Lionel Messi got ugly when the Cantabrian confronted the board that he wants to do without Luis Suarez. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are two peas in a pod who cannot be separated under any circumstance.

The Barcelona captain is the boss of the dressing room and his wingman is Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique, Quique Setien is tired of the dominance that the players have shown in the last few years and the manager believes that it is time for the manager to be in control of the dressing room, not the players.

This is not the first time that the manager and the captain have fallen out in the last 3 months. When Setien was appointed as the manager of the club, Lionel Messi while on an interview with Mundo Deportivo had stated that the club lacks caliber to compete in the champions league. Quique Setien did not take this statement in a sweet taste, as one of his biggest ambitions, since he signed for Barcelona, was to lead the club to the European summit, according to Don Balon.

The disagreement between the duo seems to be getting worse with every passing day and Josep Maria Bartomeu does not know which side he must stand with. The president certainly cannot afford to lose Lionel Messi nor can he sack the manager as that would put the club’s character and status in jeopardy.
