Quique Setien has requested the Barcelona board to consider adding Marcos Alonso to their agenda as a replacement for Junior Firpo

Barcelona had made a few major signings at the start of 2019/20 season, Frenkie de Jong, Antoine Griezmann and former Real Madrid target Junior Firpo were the standout signings. Junior Firpo was signed by Ernesto Valverde for 28 million euros in 2019 as a backup for Jordi Alba.

More from Everything Barca

The former Betico man has failed to impress Ernesto Valverde and the player considered the change of managers to be a new lifeline for his career. However, his former Real Betis coach has not been impressed either. The issue regarding the player’s sudden drop in form has nothing to do with either of the manager’s tactics, it’s the lack of discipline that prevails in the 23-year-old’s life.

Quique Setien had backed his former pupil and had given him several opportunities to settle in and cement a place in the starting elven as Jordi Alba was struggling to keep fit. However, it seems like Quique Setien no longer believes in his former pupil and he would like to part ways with the player as soon as possible.

Don Balon claims that Barcelona has considered an uncanny replacement for Junior Firpo. The Catalan board has put a former Real Madrid youth product on their agenda.

The Spaniard that Barcelona has considered is Marcos Alonso. The former Real Madrid youth player took the Premier League by a storm in his debut season for the Blues, Marcos Alonso scored seven goals and set up two assists for his teammates in the 2017/18 season.

However, Frank Lampard does not rank the Spaniard that highly and for some reason, the player no longer feels at home at the Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has scored 4 goals in just 11 Premier League games, a remarkable stat for a left-back. Chelsea is willing to let the player go for 25 million euros or slightly less and Barcelona consider him to be the perfect candidate to compete with Jordi Alba.

Marcos Alonso has shown that he can play under any system, as the Spaniard has flourished in England and Italy.

25 million euros for an experienced left-back would be a smart decision if the board accepts Quique Setien’s request.
