Barcelona has tried to sign some of the best defenders over the last few transfer windows but have failed miserably in the process of doing so.

More from Everything Barca

Quique Setien hasn’t been able to portray Barcelona as an attractive destination for many world-class defenders.

Over the years influential defensive players such as Matthijs de Ligt and Milan Skriniar who were once heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou have chosen to join other clubs.

The Spanish giants have an awful defensive record this season conceding 31 goals in 26 La Liga games. Clement Lenglet and Gerard Pique have been overused due to persistent injuries their fellow centre back Samuel Umtiti has picked up over the course of the last couple of seasons.

Barcelona must ease the pressure off their central defenders by investing in a stable player in the upcoming transfer window.

One player who has been linked to help the backline of the Camp Nou is Luiz Felipe. According to the Don Balon, The 23-year-old defender has been exceptional who helped Lazio become the best defensive team in the Serie A this season. The Brazilian has shown great signs of growing into one of the best defenders in the world of football and hiis current market value is estimated to be 40 million euros.

Despite having a terrible defensive record Barca has decided to spend their summer transfer budget on signing expensive offensive players such as Neymar and Lautaro Martinez. Signing either one of these players will leave the club without adequate funds to sign any world-class defender in the upcoming transfer window.

Given that Quique Setien is deciding to trust Philippe Coutinho and the Catalans already have Antoine Griezmann who can play as a striker, it would be more judicious if the club spends on adding firepower to their defensive department which has been leaky of late. As it is, Samuel Umtiti has one foot outside the Camp Nou and Gerard Pique will soon follow. Clement Lenglet will be the only experienced central defender in no time so Luiz Felipe would be a good buy.
