Lionel Messi has a contract which keeps him at Barcelona till 2021. The club captain has set a condition to renew his contract to stay at the Camp Nou.

More from Everything Barca

Messi has been firm with Josep Maria Bartomeu while negotiating his contract extension with Barcelona. Some of those demands include getting more bonuses for his contribution as well as a raise in his wages despite knowing the fact that the club is going through a financial strain which is caused due to the coronavirus.

Messi has also set an non-negotiable demand which the club must fulfil and that is to remove the club director Eric Abidal.

Eric Abidal and Messi haven’t been on great terms over the last few months. The friction between the duo is evident by a statement which the latter made on his Instagram account.

Don Balon states that the main reason the feud originated was because the Frenchman passed a comment in which he blamed the entire team for under-performing and held them accountable for the sacking of Ernesto Valverde. The club captain was extremely provoked by this statement and defended his players. Another significant incident which aggravated the feud was the fact that Abidal refused to take a salary reduction unlike the rest of the staff.

Other club legends such as Victor Valdes, Carles Puyol and Xavi have also questioned Abidal’s position at Barcelona.

The Frenchman has an offer to join Lyon as their sporting director. Do you think Joseph Maria Bartomeu should ask him to leave the Barca?
