After conceding 31 goals in 27 La Liga matches the management of Barcelona have decided to rebuild their defence. The Spanish giants have started looking for a central defender who can replace injury-prone Samuel Umtiti, who is on the verge of leaving the club in the next transfer window. Signing a central defender will ease the pressure off Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet who haven’t been able to perform to their optimum potential as they have been overused.
Barcelona has also decided to let go of young Junior Firpo who hasn’t been able to fit in at the Camp Nou. According to the Don Balon, Barca has identified David Alaba as a player they could sign in place of Firpo.
David Alaba is one of the best defenders in the world. The 27-year-old Austrian international is an extremely composed player who has exceptional ball control as well as the vision to administer great counter-attacking possibilities for his side. Besides these traits, he is a brilliant free-kick taker.
Alaba has decided against renewing his contract for Bayern Munich as he is uncertain of his place at the club. Several clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus have shown interest in signing the defender.
Lionel Messi has understood the fact that the Camp Nou needs a new left-back in their squad and has allowed the club’s management to join the race to sign the Austrian international.
David Alaba is currently valued at 65 million euros. Do you think Barca should sign him over the summer transfer window?
