Barcelona warns Lionel Messi after his recent demand, that the club no longer has the financial power to sign the players of his desire.

Given the current tight transfer budget that Barcelona would have in the upcoming summer transfer window, it is highly unlikely that the Neymar operation would fall through and the signing of Lautaro Martinez seems unlikely as Inter Milan will not accept anything less than 111 million euros or a swap deal that amounts to the same.

Unfortunately, the current pandemic has affected Barca in the worst possible manner and neither does the club have a well-balanced depth to sell players and not buy their backups.

The Catalan club has considered selling Philippe Coutinho, Junior Firpo, Arturo Vidal, Samuel Umtiti, and Ousmane Dembele. It would be foolish to let five quality first-team players leave the club to sign two world-class superstars. All the money generated from sales of the five players would be used to sign Neymar and Lautaro Martinez, leaving little to nothing to buy substitutes for the five departures.

Amidst the current financial strain, Lionel Messi continues to demand the board to make a few influential signings that would ensure that his winning project promise materialises before it is too late.

Don Balon claims that the Argentine has urged the board to sign the former Ajax captain to rebuild the unstable defence at Barca. The former Ajax captain was a prime Barca target along with Frenkie de Jong, however, the Dutch defender considered to snub Lionel Messi for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus.

Surprisingly, the talented youngster has come under massive criticism during his 8-month spell at Turin for not living up to everyone’s expectations. Matthijs de Ligt has had a tough time settling in a new country and adapting to the new system of football under Sarri, however, the Dutch international in the last couple of months has shown glimpses of his form that had stunned the world last season.

The 20-year old has the composure and the maturity of veteran footballer, his physical abilities and built helps him stand out as a rock at the back. This season Barca has been pathetic while defending, Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet have been overused and Samuel Umtiti has never found his form after his championship campaign with France in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Catalan club would have to pay approximately 100 million euros to sign the promising 20-year-old Dutch defender who has the potential to become the next Puyol of Barcelona.

However, the board has warned Lionel Messi that it would not be possible to shell out 100 million euros for the Juventus man and also expect to sign either Neymar or Lautaro Martinez. Another issue for Barca is the defender’s high salary demands, the Dutch international earns 14 million euros per season at Juventus, which is more than Virgil Van Dijk’s salary at Liverpool who is also considered to be the best central defender in the world.
