Barcelona’s midfield and defense this season has been below par and it’s quite evident. Hence it becomes quite natural that they are looking for a long-term midfield boost.
As per Sky Sports, Barcelona are looking to sign the 23 year-old Tanguy Ndombele in a bid to strengthen their midfield arsenal. This deal is likely to be a player exchange deal.

Tanguy had a disappointing first season at Spurs after arriving for a club record fee of £53 million. However, manager Jose Mourinho still hasn’t lost faith in the 23 year-old and he intends to keep him a part of his future plans.
The deal on Barcelona’s end is likely to include Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo. Barcelona cannot afford to pay the sum in cash owing to the financial impact due to COVID-19 outbreak. The club’s financial input centers have taken a hit. The merchandise stores and the club museum are shut and that has affected the cash inflow.
Moreover, Jose Mourinho does understand that his side needs a boost when it comes to attack and midfield services. However, strengthening defense seems to be the current priority on his agenda and therefore he’s likely to push the club to take the deal.
Samuel Umtiti was a key part of the club’s plans a year and a half ago but that seems to have changed big time. His injury problems have come to the forefront and he has been spending more time on the sidelines than on the field. Semedo on the other hand, has been quite good for the club and he’s likely to be the tempting factor in the deal.
Arthur is being targetted by Inter Milan but the former has made up his mind about staying at Barcelona for the years to come. And it’s important that he has got a suitable partner to play with. Ndombele has got good speed and and control which makes him a formidable option for the club.
Ivan Rakitic is no longer a regular in the side and Barcelona’s midfield consisting of Frenkie de Jong, Arthur and Ndombele will no doubt be an inexperienced one but it will a line-up full of quality. With the right grooming, they can carry the attack in the future.
