Lautaro Martinez has been Barca’s prime chief target for the summer overhaul, however, the pandemic has severely disrupted the Catalan club’s transfer market agenda due to the shortage of funds.
Inter Milan demands a figure worth 111 million euros for their Argentine forward or a swap deal plus cash that would amount to the same, realistically other clubs such as Manchester City have the upper hand due to their strong financial backing to sign the San Siro forward.
The current financial strain at Barcelona might be a blessing in disguise for the board who have had a share of bad luck over the past few years with transfers. The club has broken the back twice to land Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, both the transfer did not favour the Catalan’s, as neither of them achieved their potential as of yet.
Lautaro Martinez could have been another major disappointment as well, there is no guarantee that the striker would be a success since he lacks experience and has only been a half-season wonder so far. El Desmarque claims that Barcelona has considered signing an alternative and more experienced striker from Germany who has been on the radar of many topflight clubs for the last couple of years.
Timo Werner would cost the Blaugrana only 60 million euros when compared to the inexperienced 111 million euros Lautaro Martinez and if Werner does fail at Camp Nou which is highly unlikely given his consistency, it would pinch a lot less than spending 111 million euros for a flop signing.
The report also claims that RB Leipzig has assured Barcelona that the rumours stating that the German forward was on his way to Premier League are false as the club has not yet received any official offers for their forward.
The fact that the rumours of Timo Werner joining his countryman Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool has dubbed as a farce, is a new window of opportunity for Barca to procure the services of the German international.
The 24-year-old German striker would also suit the Barca style of play since he prefers playing short passes in and around the opposition half before making darting runs into the opponent box to finish the chance.
Apart from his style of plan, Timo Werner is an established striker that has already scored 84 goals in the Bundesliga and 11 goals for the German national team at the age of 24.
If Barcelona is in the search of a long term reliant replacement for Luis Suarez then Timo Werner should be their first choice given his low transfer fee as well.
