Barcelona set to part ways with former Toulouse defender.

The clear-out is set to start at Barcelona with the first casualty apparently being French defender, Jean-Clair Todibo.

According to Sport, Barcelona are close to reaching a deal with Everton for Todibo who is currently on loan with Bundesliga side, Schalke 04.

More from Everything Barca

The rumored terms would see the Catalans net €20 million for a player they signed last January for around €2 million.

The potential hold-up at the moment is Barcelona want to include a buy-back option while the Toffees do not.

In addition to being out on loan, Schalke were given an option of €25 million to make the move permanent. But the club has taken a hit with the pandemic and are unlikely to be able to afford that option.

Because of that, Barça decided to explore other options and that is when Everton came in.

It’s important to note that the two sides have a rather good relationship and have dealt with each other in the past.

The likes of Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne have all headed to the blue side of Merseyside from Barcelona.

Todibo did not play much under Ernesto Valverde nor during his first few games at Schalke. But slowly but surely he started to put in good performances and get more consistent playing time.

The plan is to sell Todibo to the highest bidder and so far that’s been Everton. But they are also taking Todibo into consideration and what he wants.

On paper, this is simply another case of Barcelona giving up on a player much too early. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. The club seems to have little to no confidence in their young players.

At a time when they find themselves in a tough financial situation, one would think that they would first look internally for a solution before deciding a player isn’t good enough, sell him and then splash the cash on an outside signing who in the end doesn’t work out.

To his credit, whenever Todibo was given an opportunity, he delivered. He can read the game well and isn’t afraid to play from out the back. . If Everton do sign him, they’ll be getting a player with a tremendous upside who Barcelona let slip away.
