Barcelona have found an ideal replacement for Samuel Umtiti

Barcelona is reducing the number of players in their squad. Quique Setien has been influenced to do so due to financial issues caused by the outbreak of coronavirus.

Barcelona is set to lose their French central defender Samuel Umtiti in the summer transfer market. The France international is heavily linked with moves to Manchester United, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus and has an estimated market value of 40 million Euros.

The Spanish giants have suffered defensively due to injuries Umtiti has picked up in the last two seasons. Injuries to the Frenchman has jeopardized Gerard Pique‘s and Clement Lenglet performances as they have been overused.

Quique Setien has been scanning the market for replacements for Umtiti. According to the Donbalon, the club has shown interest to bring Kalidou Koulibaly to the Camp Nou.

Koulibaly is one of the best centre backs in the world. He impressed the world by performing exceptionally well in Napoli’s 2018-2019 season. In 2018-2019 season Koulibaly acted as a brick wall in the heart of his side’s defence helping them qualify for the Champions League. Despite picking up an injury which has put him on the sideline for most of this season many clubs have the Senegal international on their radar.

Barcelona are hopeful to sign the defender but might struggle to do so. This is because Napoli has set a price point of 120 million euros for his transfer. The Spanish giants have made Neymar and Lautaro Martinez their primary transfer targets this season. Signing these players would leave the club with insufficient funds to get Koulibaly to the Camp Nou.

Many experts believe that Barca could try and add Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo in transfer deals to influence Napoli’s decision.
