Barcelona and its board of directors is desperately looking to raise some money and will resort to making decisions even if they don’t impress the players.

With the signings of Lautaro Martinez and Neymar being the absolute objectives in the Barcelona offices for the summer, it is no secret that the club is willing to sell some players to raise funds. The midfield could see most departures as Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic are already on the transfer list and offers will be heard for Arthur Melo too.

Don Balon has claimed that Josep Maria Bartomeu is also plotting for the exit of La Masia product Rafinha Alcantara. The 27 year old has been part of two loan spells already since becoming a first-team player for Barca, but to no avail as his chances of playing with the senior squad are still slim and practically non-existent.

Atletico Madrid are willing to offer a contract to the former La Masia product as Diego Simeone sees the midfielder to be a worthy addition in his setup. Having said that, the player is valued at 20 million euros and even a financial crisis after the coronavirus could see the Rojiblancos afford the Brazilian and all the more comfortably if they sell Thomas Partey.

Lionel Messi however is against the move because he believes that the permanent departure of Rafinha from Barcelona would once again prove evidence to the fact that the club’s La Masia academy is on a downward role. The youth setup which produced players like Xavi and Andres Iniesta once upon a time is struggling to make good ones now.

Regardless of Messi’s opinion in this matter, Barca will try to push hard in a bid to sell Rafinha Alcantara. For a fact, it has been reported that even the player’s brother Thiago Alcantara, now a Bayern Munich player for seven years, has asked the Celta Vigo loanee to move on and find a greener pasture where he can play regular football.
