The destination is reportedly a second division side of the Spanish league and the loan is likely to last a whole season. Barca’s current backup goalkeeper, Neto, has reportedly been placed on the transfer market as the Catalans look to recoup their finances.
The Spanish club have decided to sign their former academy star currently playing for Ajax, Andre Onana, by not only selling Neto but also loaning Pena in order for him to continue his development as a player.
Barca are confident in Inaki’s abilities but want him to receive plenty of playing time, something that is not possible under the current first-team squad.
Fans have witnessed Pena multiple times on the bench as he has made 11 appearances there. He also managed to be called up for Spain’s U21 squad, however, he is yet to play any matches for them.
Pena is undoubtedly an exciting talent that might play an important role for Barca in the future, but for now, a loan deal seems to be the best opportunity for the youngster. The 21-year-old must gain more minutes that would help him develop into a potential first-team player that could play as the perfect backup for Ter Stegen.
Should Barca loan Inaki Pena or give the promising youngster a chance?
