However, over the past few days there have been rumours that the Spanish giants have been reconsidering their initial statement as the management feels uncomfortable with Frenkie’s performances.

The former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder was the engine for his side in the 2018-2019 season and took his team to the semi-finals of the Champions League. According to the Don Balon, Barcelona’s staff have felt that Frenkie hasn’t been able to perform to this level this at the Camp Nou despite the fact that Ajax and Barca have a similar philosophy in their play.

Experts feel he is overvalued and isn’t going to develop as a player in Spain. Similar opinions are being passed about his former teammate Matthijs de Ligt who hasn’t been able to make his mark in Juventus.

Barca is in a stage where they are redefining their squad and have been heavily linked with signing young players such Lautaro Martinez, Jadon Sancho and Fabian Ruiz in the upcoming transfer window.

Frenkie has a current market value of 75 million euros and at Barca he has shown signs to develop into one of the best midfielders in the years to follow. Considering his expensive valuation teams such as Manchester United, Juventus and PSG could try and lure the Dutchman into their squads.

The club could also consider adding Frankie to the list of players who would be sold in the upcoming transfer window. Players such as Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho have found their names on the list and are linked with moves away from the Camp Nou.

However, many feel that Barca’s staff is being harsh on the young Dutchman considering the fact that he has only played one season at the Camp Nou. The Netherlands international is one of the most consistent midfielders in the world who has shown great composure in the middle of the pitch similar to what club legends Andres Iniesta and _Xavi_ have provide the club with in the past. Bartomeu should wait for a few more seasons and allow the 22 year old to portray his true colours before making any decision.

Moreover, selling the Dutchman will leave Sergio Busquets with no support. Busquets is in his 30’s and might not be able to perform to his optimum level in the upcoming season keeping Frenkie will ease the pressure off his back and help him perform at his optimum potential.

Bartomeu has been in touch with Frenkie de Jong‘s representatives and is having talks regarding his future at the Camp Nou. As things stand the midfielder is staying at Camp Nou and continues to work on his fitness to perform more consistently post coronavirus.
