Lautaro Martinez remains Barcelona’s top choice to replace Luis Suarez.

Everyone knows that what Barcelona have lacked the last couple of seasons is a striker. Everyone also knows that their top choice for a while now has been Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

But Inter Milan are not looking to just give him away and the Catalans know they are unable to spend the amount that Inter are demanding for their star striker. Which is why if Barcelona are going to spend this offeason, all the funds will be spent on a striker and a striker only.

More from Everything Barca

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca have made a choice when it comes to how they’re going to spend this offseason and have decided to concentrate on signing a top goalscorer. Any other areas of need, the club are going to try to fill by doing player swaps.

They’ve thrown the possibility of signing Neymar out the window and are actively trying to find a way to meet Inter’s demand without needing to spend the €111 buyout clause.

The latest rumor had Inter willing to accept €90 million, Arturo Vidal and the loan of Antoine Griezmann.

On its face, it looks a ludicrous deal but considering the wages that they are paying Vidal and Griezmann, including them in a potential deal is something that Barcelona would find appealing.

The fact of the matter is that Barça know they need a striker. If Martinez becomes too expensive and a deal cannot be reached with Inter, then they have Timo Werner as a back-up. The RB Leipzig player would cost around €60 million, a more feasible amount for the Catalan side.

No one is certain how the transfer market is going to work once football gets back underway and the season is completed. The pandemic has affected every club financially. Everyone is going to need to get creative and it appears that Barcelona know that.

Barcelona is left hanging after the news emerges from Germany. dark. Next

Finding a suitable replacement at striker should be their top priority. So too should be bringing the wage bill down. It’s one of the reasons why they are so set on doing player swaps. That’s going to be more difficult but if they manage to snag either Martinez or Werner, that’s one big item off their to-do list.
