Bringing these players to the Camp Nou is an extremely costly proposition and in order to grow funds for these transfers, Barcelona has decided to sell players such as Philippe Coutinho, Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembele in the summer transfer window.
Barca must act promptly over the next few weeks and finalise a deal for their primary transfer targets as Manchester City has shown interest in signing Lautaro Martinez.
Manchester City has been scanning the market for a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero. According to the Don Balon, Pep Guardiola feels Martinez will be the ideal candidate to fill in Aguero’s shoes who is 31 years old and is playing the last few years of competitive football.
The 2018-2019 Premier League champions have been in touch with Martinez’s representatives and have been trying to finalise a transfer. In their negotiations Pep has offered to make the young Argentinean one of the most expensive players in the Premier League.
However, Martinez might not want to join Pep as that would result in him missing out on Champions League football over the next few seasons. There are rumours that the young striker might consider joining Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain but no official offer has been made till now.
The Spanish giants mustn’t lose out on the opportunity to sign Martinez. There have been rumours that Luis Suarez is tempted to leave the Camp Nou and play his last few years of competitive football in South America. Barca had signed Antoine Griezmann as a replacement for the Uruguayan. However, the Frenchman hasn’t been clinical enough this season scoring only 14 goals and providing the club with 4 assists in 37 matches.
Signing Martinez should fulfil the goalscoring void in the Camp Nou. The young Argentinean was able to score 11 goals in 22 league games for Inter Milan this season. Martinez is 22 years-old and shown signs of maturing into one of the greatest goal scorers in the world of football much like Luis Suarez who has played such a crucial part in Barca’s success over the years.
Do you think Barca should sign Martinez in the upcoming transfer window?
