Barcelona have been on the hunt for defenders in the recent past. There seem to be two agendas on their list. One, to replace Gerard Pique and two, to land a quality left-back.

As per Diario Sport, Barcelona are close to making a move on Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa who is due to leave PSG this summer after the expiry of his contract. The Parisians are now close to landing Alex Telles and will be willing to release their French defender.

With Telles out of the equation and their reach, the Catalans who also targeted him seem to be more interested in the Kurzawa at the moment. It has to be noted that the arrival of the FC Porto defender Telles into PSG opens up the doors for Kurzawa as both of them play as left-backs, plus, the Ligue 1 giants already have Juan Bernat on their roster.

The Blaugrana need someone at that position in order to give some competition and eventually replace Jordi Alba, who is nearing the end of his career. Barca cannot compete with PSG for Telles as the latter are financially superior. Moreover, the Catalans’ war-chest has taken a massive hit owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is more interesting is that Kurzawa will be leaving as a free agent at the end of his contract which is probably the best thing that the La Liga leaders could hope for, in terms of minimising their expenditure. It is not to be forgotten that there have been some strong Neymar links as well with PSG starting to consider player-exchange deals in addition to cash.

Barcelona are in need of a winger, a left-back and a right-back, and a striker. They need to find replacements for Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez who seem to have lost their golden touch, thanks to their age. They have slowed down considerably and are starting to show signs of inconsistency.

Barcelona currently have Lautaro Martinez and Neymar on their radar in addition to Kurzawa. Only time will tell the fate of Barcelona in the upcoming transfer market. Should the season resume, a reinforcement in quality will be the need of the hour for the Catalan giants.
