Barcelona need to raise 70 million euros before June 30
Barcelona, at the beginning of the season, had set a budget that would have them sell players to raise a total of €124 million.
During the previous campaign, Barcelona just about managed to reach their target but did not make as much profit as they would have liked as the only departing players were Malcom and Sergi Palencia, combining to 10 million in sales. Philippe Coutinho‘s loan to Bayern Munich added another 8.5 million with a purchase option of 120 million euros.

Barca were optimistic regarding Coutinho’s permanent move to Allianz as they hoped to recover 40 million euros with that transfer but unfortunately, the deal fell through as Bayern were not willing to trigger the Brazilian’s purchase option.
Abel Ruiz, Carles Perez, Alejandro Marques were also among the players sold with some deals including the mandatory purchase options which added another 30 million, along with Jean-Clair Todibo‘s loan.
Marc Cucurella‘s move to Getafe will bring another 6 million as the club have already informed their intention of paying. These deals add up to 54 million euros with 70 million still remaining.
Coutinho’s 120 million euro price tag will surely need a revision as no club will be prepared to pay such an amount for the struggling midfielder, especially after the financial impact caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Blaugrana are now hoping to make at least €80m for the 27-year-old as that’s the amount outstanding to be paid to Liverpool.
Reports even claim that Coutinho might remain at the Nou Camp, increasing the complications as the club would have to pay his huge salary or perhaps might have to loan him once again.
The German side, Schalke, currently have Todibo on loan, with an option to purchase at 25 million, though they are reluctant to pay that amount. Regardless of the amount, Todibo’s transfer would be profitable as Barca signed him from Toulouse for a mere 1 million euros’ fee.
Finally, there is Rafinha with a 16 million euros release clause that would be activated during the summer transfer window, an affordable price for many clubs for such a talented footballer.
Despite these sales, Barca must look to sell a top-level player to recoup the hefty amount, and do so before June 30.
