Exactly a year ago, rumors revolving a deal to switch Ivan Rakitic for Federico Bernardeschi had circulated with the two sides heavily invested in negotiations but in the end, it had failed to go through.
The Italian giants recently acquired Barca’s youth star, Alejandro Marques for roughly 9 million dollars, while Matheus Pereira moved the other direction to Camp Nuo. The Catalans have the option to purchase the 22 years old Brazilian for 8.8 million dollars before June 30.
Recently the two sides were heavily linked concerning the departure of Barca’s next Xavi, Arthur Melo, who has been hailed by many as the future of the Catalan midfield. The 23-year-old has plenty of time to establish himself as an outstanding midfield duo alongside Frenkie de Jong, but his future is up for debate ever since Juve have offered Miralem Pjanic, Federico Bernardeschi or Rodrigo Bentancur in exchange.
COVID-19 has changed the world of football transfers as many clubs struggle financially, in turn forcing them to secure deals by including various players in return. Despite this, the Spanish giants continue to chase Neymar and Lautaro Martinez from their respective clubs and are prepared to sell anyone besides Lionel Messi, De Jong, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen in order to do so.
Barca are also known to be in the market for a new right-back as both, Sergio Roberto and Nelson Semedo, have failed to secure the spot under both Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien. Mundo Deportivo now reports that Juventus have offered Mattia De Sciglio to Barca as Juve coach, Maurizio Sarri, does not see the player in his plans.
De Sciglio is unique as he is able to play on both feet allowing him to not only feature at right-back but also play as a potential backup for Jordi Alba. Hailed as the ‘little Maldini’, the 27-year-old has managed 31 appearances for Italy’s national team.
Despite being haunted by multiple injuries in past years, the Italian is a cheaper alternative to other full-backs linked with Blaugrana like Manchester City’s Joan Cancelo or Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin.
