Barcelona could take a decision that may have very negative repercussions and have surprisingly received their captain’s backing in doing so.

Barcelona’s dressing room has been at divides lately and there have been a lot of quarrels happening internally within the club. The situation at the Camp Nou found a break amid the coronavirus pandemic but there isn’t much optimism that things will be back to normalcy once the club resumes regular activity as was the case some months ago.

More from Everything Barca

Lionel Messi will continue to have a major influence on the matters regarding to transfers and first-team decisions and Don Balon has reported that the captain has overlooked a major fault with the club’s process and is supporting Josep Maria Bartomeu and his executives in what could be a horrific decision going forward for the Blaugrana.

France’s trio of Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti seem to have created power amongst themselves in the dressing room and the French connection could only multiply if Jean-Clair Todibo becomes a part of the first team next season. The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Schalke, but the club may bring him back if they don’t sign a defender.

Among the four Frenchman that the club is associated with, Samuel Umtiti may be departing once the transfer window opens. The former Lyon centre-back has struggled for minutes amid fitness issues and wants to spend his prime-age playing regularly. However, the Catalans are also willing to sell Todibo which may come as a massive mistake.

Jean-Clair Todibo was widely seen as the club’s future following his arrival a few months ago but he has gone to Germany in order to play regularly, at least on a temporary basis. In a move to raise cash, the La Liga leaders could get rid of the former Toulouse man and value him at around 20 million euros.

Todibo is considered a generational player and had many suitors before eventually opting to sign for Barca and his sale could prove catastrophic for the defending Spanish league champions in the near future rather than the longer term. That is if Samuel Umtiti leaves, which has a great probability of happening as Paris Saint-Germain hover above him.

Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet would be the only first-choice defenders at Quique Setien’s disposal next season in case Bartomeu fails in landing a central defender. One of the two is ageing and has slowed down rapidly and playing them regularly may take a toll on fitness, thereby jeopardizing Barca’s ambitions which they have to anyway cope with as a trimmed squad.

Do you think Barca must sell Todibo without getting in any cover for him?
