Previously the Argentine forward expressed his growing concern over the lack of squad depth and quality in the squad while on an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Leo Messi went on to state that the current team does not have the quality within them to compete for the coveted Champions League trophy and that the signings of Lautaro Martinez or Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain would help to reshape the squad into a winning project.
However, the global pandemic of the COVID-19 has taken a harsh blow on Barcelona and now the club find themselves in a state of an economic crisis, the current crisis that Barca faces has technically ruled out all the possibilities of signing either of the superstars.
The fact that neither Lautaro Martinez or Neymar would sign for the Blaugrana in the coming summer market has not been taken lightly by Lionel Messi, the club captain is well aware that he still has a month’s time to terminate his current contract and move to another club that could fulfil his winning project desire, as the Argentine will soon turn 33 and he possibly could not risk his legacy at Barcelona if they do not build a squad that can fiercely compete for all three trophies, especially the Champions League.
Don Balon claims that the six-time Ballon D’or winner is willing to take a wage cut worth 25% next season if the board fulfil his promise by landing Neymar from Paris.
The board at the Catalan club find themselves in a serious situation since the pandemic has cost them to lose approximately 150 million euros due to the suspension of games and Television rights. However, even before the pandemic hit Barca hard, the club failed to sign Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia in the winter transfer market due to insufficient funds.
If the current La Liga leaders do not want to lose their greatest player of all time, then the club must either fulfil his demand by somehow signing Neymar or increase his salary by an astronomical amount.
What is your opinion on Lionel Messi’s current demand? Would the arrival of Neymar actually improve the squad to once again compete for the Champions League trophy?
