Barcelona frustrates Lionel Messi by failing to meet all of the demands the player has made to improve the club’s condition.

As Lionel Messi is set to turn 33 next month in June, the captain of Barcelona has entered the last few years of his career in professional football, however, the board of the Catalan club has not yet fulfilled their long-gone promise.

More from Everything Barca

The Camp Nou might just get to witness the world’s best player for another two seasons at the most before the player has to hang up his boots, Lionel Messi has been a long time servant of the club and his contribution to the success of Barcelona is beyond measurable, however, in the last few seasons, the Blaugrana have struggled on the elite European stage as they have not made it to the summit of Europe since their championship campaign in the 2014/15 season and have had to see arch-rivals Real Madrid claim three back-to-back continental crowns.

The Argentina international would not want to end his career at Barca without fulfilling the promise he made to the fans post the defeat to Roma in the quarter-finals, Lionel Messi promised the fans at the Camp Nou before the start of the 2018/19 season that he would give his all to win the Champions League trophy once again.

However, the board at Barcelona has not supported Lionel Messi in any way possible to bring back the Champions League trophy, Josep Maria Bartomeu had also promised the captain that he would build him a winning squad that would be strong enough to retain European glory.

The promise from Bartomeu still seems to be hanging since the current squad is filled with aged players who are past their prime and cannot perform without Lionel Messi’s contribution on the field.

The board promised that the winning project would be completed in the coming summer market as they would sign both Lautaro Martinez and Neymar, however, given the current circumstances that the club faces financially, neither of the two players would be signing for the current La Liga leaders.

Quique Setien and Leo Messi have urged the board to now focus on the defensive department instead since they do not have the financial power to sign forwards who are generally placed higher up on the transfer market when compared to defenders.

Don Balon claims that board had turned down the captain’s suggestion of either signing Milan Skriniar or Matthijs de Ligt due to the shortage of funds and have considered keeping Samuel Umtiti who was supposed to leave the club in July as they have no other option available.

The board has also decided to make way and give Ronald Araujo a chance to cement his place as an important player in the squad for next season, the Uruguayan has the quality to become one of the most exciting prospects in Europe and more game time would help to develop the future of the 21-year-old.

Although the board at Barcelona is changing their ways by considering giving the younger players more chances next season such as Ronald Araujo, unfortunately, Lionel Messi is still not impressed since none of his demands for the betterment of the club has been met.
