Barcelona have been planning to sign offensive players in the upcoming transfer window to ease the pressure off Ansu Fati, Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi who have been overworked this season.

More from Everything Barca

To release the pressure from Barcelona’s attackers their board has identified and set their primary transfer targets to be Lautaro Martinez and Neymar. However, the club hasn’t been economically stable due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and are struggling to sign the expensive duo.

Quique Setien has been trying to identify cheaper alternatives for the expensive attacking players and according to the El Dersmarque, the Spanish giants have identified Chelsea’s playmaker Willian as a potential signing. Chelsea and Willian’s representatives have failed to reach an agreement in their contract negotiations which has frustrated the playmaker and has ultimately led the midfielder to pass a statement in which he has stated that he is willing to negotiating a transfer move away from the Stanford Bridge.

Willian has a contract which expires in the summer of 2020 and other clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United have also shown interest to sign the midfielder.

Tottenham under the management of Jose Mourinho seems to be leading the race to sign Willian. Many experts claim that the Brazilian feels comfortable with the idea of playing under his old manager and has shown signs that he feels convinced that this will be the best move for his future. As things stand the English team is yet to offer Willian with a transfer offer.

Barcelona must try and tempt the Brazilian playmaker to join the Camp Nou instead of Tottenham in order to effectively use their limited resources in the upcoming transfer window. Signing Willian will remove the pressure of spending money on the expensive offensive duo in the upcoming transfer window and will help the club to focus on signing much needed defensive players who can act as replacements for Junior Firpo and Samuel Umtiti who are set to leave the club.

The 2018-2019 La Liga champions could alternatively use their limited resources to sign a world-class midfield who can replace players such as Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal.
