Back in 2019, Barcelona signed Antoine Griezmann and ended up playing a hefty sum. It may be a move that comes back to haunt the club.

As per Express, the Antoine Griezmann transfer to Camp Nou was a failed experiment and the reason behind the Neymar transfer mistake on account of two reasons. One, 8 goals from 26 appearances meant a disastrous first season for the Frenchman at the Camp Nou and two, Barcelona are facing a shortage of funds at the moment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive financial impact on football and many clubs across the world are facing financial troubles at the moment. Barcelona’s revenue streams in the club museum and the merchandise outlets have been cut off and the Blaugrana might not be able to fund the Neymar deal.

In addition to that, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain aren’t exactly on the friendliest terms and while the Ligue 1 giants do seem to open their doors for a player swap, an exchange deal with Barca looking unlikely largely because of the financial aftermath of the the Brazil international’s transfer back in 2017.

Neymar arrived in PSG back in 2017 for a record fee of £200 million which went down as the biggest transfer in football history. However, the former Santos winger wants to return to his former club at the moment and it has been that way for quite some time now.

Neymar and Messi synchronised their playing styles pretty well when they were a part of the infamous MSN trio. While Griezmann’s signing was never justified, he couldn’t quite fit into the role of the left winger because he is naturally a striker and the outwide role impeded his flexibility.

The Neymar transfer deal has been on the club’s mind for quite some time now and they need to act on it and act quickly. Barcelona are eyeing for Lautaro Martinez as well and landing both of the premium players seems like a long-shot. However, the current priority should be to land a suitable and young defender, which the club is paying least heed to.
