Barcelona are considering a cheap attacking midfielder from Russia’s Lokomotiv Moscow, scouted by technical director, Eric Abidal.

Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, promised to bring reinforcements to the squad this summer with massive names linked with the club.

The financial situation of the club along with the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly limited the amount of transfers Barca can secure in the next window.

The board have a difficult task ahead of them as they get a unique opportunity to limit their transfer to cheap yet promising players that would fit Barca’s unique playing style.

As of late, the board have struggled to do exactly that, as evident in their latest massive signing, Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman was signed from Atletico Madrid in the hopes of becoming the long time successor to 33-year-old Luis Suarez.

The 120 million euro transfer fee paid by the Catalans along with several of their players being on extravagant salaries has caused a massive financial drought. This has led to Bartomeu’s sting of selling numerous players to recoup the club’s funds.

Having said that, selling players will not improve the existing squad as it requires reinforcements in many positions. Barca can achieve this in two ways, either selling or exchanging players or signing cheaper alternatives.

Such is the case of Eric Abidal’s latest findings in his task to scout quality players that are not well known. The latest request made to Bartomeu is to sign Russian attacking midfielder, Aleksey Miranchuk, currently playing for Lokomotiv Moscow.

Despite being not very well known among the European football fans due to him only ever playing in the Russian league, Aleksey has already caught Juventus’s attention. Barca joins the Italian side to scout the availability and cost of the player.

The 24-year-old will reportedly cost less than 20 million euros, along with a reasonable salary demand. Bartomeu has approved this transfer and the fate now lies with the player himself. Aleksey could potentially be the Catalan’s first signing for the summer.
