The transfer market plans in Barcelona have been destroyed by their talismanic forward, who was their only hope of raising funds for the summer.

Barcelona resumed training last Friday for the first time since the suspension of the league due to the COVID-19 outbreak, however, fortune did not favour Quique Setien again as Samuel Umtiti picked up an injury while training.

The board had shortlisted the former Olympique Lyon defender, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho as the possible players to be sold in the coming summer transfer market to raise funds for their main transfer operation’s since the club has been severely affected financially by the pandemic.

With the injury of Samuel Umtiti, the Catalans have already lost out on one financial asset, however, to make matters worse, El Desmarque claims that Philippe Coutinho who is still on loan at Bayern Munich has sustained an injury that will keep him out for another next six weeks and the former Liverpool man will also miss the remaining season of the Bundesliga that is scheduled to continue on the 16th of May.

The talismanic Brazilian midfielder was considered by Bartomeu as an asset to raise cash in the summer since club’s such Chelsea were willing to pay up to 80 million euros for the most expensive player in the history of Barcelona.

However, the situation regarding the future of Philippe Coutinho has changed since no club would want to pay the price tag that Barcelona has set after the player sustained his recent long-term injury. Quique Setien still believes in the Brazilian and he wants him in the squad next season to add creativity in the midfield, however, Bartomeu still wants to sell the player as the former Liverpool man is the club’s only realistic shot at raising money for the summer transfer window.

With Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho out, the board at the Catalan club only have Ousmane Dembele left as their only hope for the summer transfer market. There have been rumours that the French forward had also sustained injuries while training and the club are still waiting on the medical results of the injury, if the rumours are true then Barcelona would be left with no hope of signing any of the players they wanted this summer.
