Barcelona could be in for a major setback as one of their captain’s enemies could be on the move to Spain, but on the books of Real Madrid

Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi is currently on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, but has been the subject of controversy in France. His wife and agent, Wanda Nara, commented that the striker intended on returning to Italy which sparked rumours that Icardi’s contract was being terminated with immediate effect, however, no action was taken as such.

Paris Saint-Germain have been scouting for a replacement to Edinson Cavani lately and since their on-loan forward has done incredibly well, they were keen on signing Icardi for a supposed price tag of 60 million euros. Nonetheless, his wife’s comments may put the Ligue 1 giants off and they could pull the plug on his permanent transfer.

Mauro Icardi has been linked with moves to clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past, but with the former wanting to sign Lautaro Martinez, the only realistic destination for the 27-year-old is the home of the 13-time European champions. With that said, Diario GOL has claimed to be the source of major updates with regard to the potential transfer.

Zinedine Zidane is keen on landing the Argentina international as a result of his dissatisfaction with Luka Jovic. The Serbian frontman has been inconsistent for the Merengues, scoring just twice all season, and has suffered a fracture to his foot that’s ruled him out for six to eight weeks.

At Madrid, Icardi is seen as a fantastic player and his price tag of just 60 million euros is attractive to Real Madrid as they can land a world-class striker but also have enough funds to complete the dream signing of Kylian Mbappe next summer. And despite being a Barca academy product, the PSG marksman has his plans in place for a Bernabeu switch.

Barcelona’s captain Lionel Messi and his compatriot do not share a friendly relationship, which is no internal matter, which has cost the striker several callups to the national squad. Moreover, he was not deemed good enough for the Barca senior squad and will look to avenge this buy taking a significant wage-cut, should Madrid offer him a deal.

Given how the situation is right now, Real Madrid will be able to afford Icardi but probably not accommodate his wage demands or meet a figure that Paris Saint-Germain would have. All things considered, his signing would be a brilliant one for Los Blancos and should Icardi be a success in Spain’s capital, Barca would rue losing him some years ago.
