Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has made his case for the post even stronger after he has pledged to hand Barcelona another golden era.

As per Sky Sports, it is believed that the former president has his sights set on bringing back Pep Guardiola as the manager of Barcelona, should he be re-elected for the tenure next summer.

What’s more is that Guardiola’s contract with City expires around that time as well and hence it is natural that Laporta would like to have him back at the club. It has to be noted that Laporta and Guardiola enjoyed a pretty succesful partnership when they both had their respective roles.

Under Joan, the Blaugrana were at their all-time high and they won as many as 12 trophies in six years. The former Bayern Munich coach enjoyed immense success with the club having won the league title three times in a row and the Champions league in 2009 with a domestic double.

Manchester City are currently serving a two year-ban from engaging in the UEFA competitions due to illegal funding and this has raised questions on the Spaniard’s future at the club.

The Catalan giants are struggling at the moment with their decision making and team-selection and are in need of some serious rebuilding and the former president has already spoken about giving the team a new look and possibly having Neymar back at the club. His goals seem set and there shouldn’t be many questions regarding his agenda for the club.

Quique Setien hasn’t exactly pushed the club into their top gear and inconsistency is starting to creep in with the way the squad goes about its business. Yes, he did take on the role of the manager in the middle of a transition; but that has gone for way too long now and there has been no sign of the fact that the squad might finally be settling down.

Guardiola has already coached Barcelona in the past and he might know the best in this case. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Laporta also spoke about the possibility of getting in Xavi Hernandez who is currently getting his managerial experience. However, only time will tell one what’s meant to be and what’s not.
