Ivan Rakitic is set to pay a huge favour towards Real Madrid after considering a move to Italy that would benefit Real Madrid in signing their long lost target.

Ivan Rakitic has been in the limelight this season regarding a move away from Barcelona after falling out with the board and the coaching staff. The Croatian midfielder has also faced harsh criticism from the fans at the Camp Nou that have not turned down any opportunity at jeering and whistling at the former Sevilla man.

There were rumours that the management at the Catalan club had managed to calm down the situation regarding Ivan Rakitic and that the midfielder would continue under Quique Setien next season along with an important role in the squad.

However, as fortune favours the brave, the Croatian had offers from several clubs in the Premier League and in the La Liga itself, however, Lazio’s offer from the Serie A has caught the former Sevilla man’s eye, according to Don Balon.

The signing of Frenkie de Jong was the final nail in the coffin for the 32-year old Croatian midfielder’s role in Barcelona and although Bartomeu had promised the player that he would still have his place in the squad despite the recruitment of the Dutch midfielder. Unfortunately, the president has failed to keep his promise and Ivan Rakitic has a long summer to think about where his future lies as he nears the twilight years of his career.

If Ivan Rakitic does leave for the Serie A and sign for Lazio who are currently second on the table of the Italian top-flight division, the Barca midfielder would perform a great favour not only towards Barcelona w would earn a decent figure from his departure but also their arch-rivals, Real Madrid who would then go for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who was linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu since time immemorial.

With the departure of Savic to his beloved Real Madrid, the Italian team has considered Ivan Rakitic to be a promising replacement despite his age. Real Madrid would have to pay 90 million euros to trigger the clause in the Serbian international’s contract to have him on board at the city of Madrid with his compatriot Luka Jovic.

If the deal does fall through, the Catalans would have to consider a replacement for Ivan Rakitic as his departure would leave a major void in the team, either the board could consider using their youth academy products or consider signing a player in the coming summer market.
