The pandemic has adversely affected the financial situation at the Catalan club and Josep Maria Bartomeu has considered to cash in on players instead as a means of raising funds. However, the injury of Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho who is on loan at Germany has ruled out the two possible assets that could have been sold for a decent price.
For this reason, Josep Maria Bartomeu has taken a harsh step that goes against the wishes of Lionel Messi by adding three other players who have a high market value to raise funds. Don Balon claims that the president has added Arthur Melo, Ansu Fati, and Ivan Rakitic on the list.
The Brazilian midfielder, Arthur Melo, has struggled with his physical conditioning due to his irregular lifestyle and the 23-year old often find it difficult to complete a game of ninety minutes. Initially, the talismanic midfielder was to be sold for around 70 million euros, however, recently the rumours state that the Barca man would be used in the direct swap deal for Miralem Pjanic from Juventus.
In the case of Ansu Fati, the 17-year-old winger has been added to the loan list as the club is aware of the potential that the teenager possess and selling him would be a huge loss. Borussia Dortmund seems to be interested in signing the player on a season-long loan as the German club promises to provide the player with ample game time to ensure his growth is not hindered.
The last player on the list is the infamous Ivan Rakitic, the Croatian midfielder had fallen out with the team after he had lost his importance in the squad after the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax. The 32-year-old midfielder is nearing the end of his career and has received an attractive offer from Lazio, the Italian team is willing to offer the player an important squad role along with a better salary than the midfielder earns at the Camp Nou.
The departure of the three named players would not financially benefit Barcelona in a huge manner, instead, it would make matters worse for the Catalan club to find replacements for the three with their limited transfer budget.
