The Blaugrana and the Los Blancos were battling it out to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig, both the Spanish teams are in a dire need of a replacement defender since Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique are nearing towards their last few seasons of top-flight football.
However, rumours state that the Dayot Upamecano has turned down all the offers he had on his table as the French defender prefers to continue for another year at the Bundesliga. With the French defender out of the grasps of Barcelona, the Catalan board has considered Brendan Rodgers central defender, according to Don Balon.
Manchester United had paid 70 million pounds to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City at the start of 2019/20. The Foxes then replaced their captain with Caglar Soyuncu, who has taken the league by a storm and has caught everyone’s attention with his dominant style of play.
The Turkish international looks up to Carles Puyol as his idol and like his idol, the Turkish defender can score towering headers and has an immense physical presence when defending or moving towards the opposition box during set-pieces. Apart from his physicality, the defender is extremely quick with and without the ball and is quite skillful for a centre-back.
His defensive effort has paid off this season as Brendan Roger’s Leicester City are currently third on the league table with the second least goal’s scored against after Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
The Turkish defender might be Barcelona’s best shot at replacing Gerard Pique as the player would not only add physicality to the defense of Barca but his composed ball distribution skill would be a major boost for Quique Setien as that is an important skill he demands from a defender.
A figure ranging worth 50-55 million euros would be sufficient for the Foxes to let their defender leave. Would you like to see Caglar Soyuncu as a Blaugrana?
