The board at Barcelona has come to a conclusion over one of the summer market’s most exciting transfer after a brief discussion with Quique Setien.

Quique Setien has not had it easy during his short tenure at Barcelona, the former Real Betis manager has struggled in his three months as the head coach of Barca due to serious lack in squad depth after a series of long term injuries to Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and Jordi Alba.

In less than a month since being in charge of the Catalan club, strong rumours had broken out that the players had fallen out with the Cantabrian manager as a feeling of doubt had risen in the dressing room of the Camp Nou on whether Setien was the right choice ahead of Xavi Hernandez and Ronald Koeman to lead the club.

However, the rumours stating that Setien would be on his way out have been nullified after the board of Barcelona has decided to show confidence in the current manager as they believe his intentions for the club are aligned with the board’s expectations.

Don Balon claims that Quique Setien has gone out of the way to ensure that the most expensive player in the Catalan club history remains at the Camp Nou next season as he plans to work his midfield around the creativity that the former Liverpool man has to offer.

The manager has even conveyed to the board that he would be willing to lose the arrival of Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain only if Philippe Coutinho is removed from the transfer list. The former Inter Milan midfielder has not had the best spell he would have wished at Bayern Munich, however, the midfielder has performed a lot better than what he did at Barca and Setien could help the Brazilian find his magical samba feet once again.

Bartomeu had considered Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele as the two financial assets that would be used in the summer transfer market to raise funds for other major signings. However, Bartomeu has given in to Quique Setien’s request to keep the Brazilian midfielder in the team next season.
